GRE
The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardized test used for admissions to various graduate programs, including master’s and doctoral degrees. It is widely accepted by universities around the world.
The GRE General Test consists of three main sections:
1. Verbal Reasoning:
- Measures reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and vocabulary skills through text completion, sentence equivalence, and reading passages.
2. Quantitative Reasoning:
- Assesses basic math skills, understanding of quantitative concepts, and ability to solve problems using arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
3. Analytical Writing:
Tests critical thinking and analytical writing skills. This section includes two tasks: “Analyze an Issue” and “Analyze an Argument,” where test-takers must write responses based on provided prompts.
Scoring:
- Each of the Verbal and Quantitative sections is scored on a scale of 130 to 170, in one-point increments, while the Analytical Writing section is scored on a scale of 0 to 6, in half-point increments.
- The total score combines the Verbal and Quantitative scores, resulting in a range of 260 to 340.
Test Duration:
- The total test time is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, including breaks.
- Individual sections are allocated the following time:
- Verbal Reasoning: 60 minutes
- Quantitative Reasoning: 70 minutes
- Analytical Writing: 60 minutes (30 minutes per task)
